Recipe: Homemade Helper

We don’t make Hamburger Helper in our house, we make Turkey Helper but more over we don’t buy the packages of Hamburger Helper to do so either. This a quick, easy dinner that comes together with nearly no effort at all and tastes just like the boxed stuff but it has delicious real cheese!

Ingredients
  1. 1 pound ground meat (we use turkey or chicken)
  2. 1 cup hot water
  3. 2 cups milk
  4. 1 1/2 cups small macaroni
  5. 1 tablespoon corn starch
  6. 1 tablespoon chili powder
  7. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  8. 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  9. 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
  1. Brown the meat in a large skillet or shallow pot.
  2. Add the water, milk, macaroni, and spices to the meat and bring to a boil.
  3. Lower to a simmer and cook for about 10-12 minutes or until the pasta is soft.
  4. Add the grated cheese and cook for another 2 minutes until the cheese is melted. Serve warm.
Notes
  1. You can definitely add vegetables to this if you like such as mushrooms, pepper, onions, tomatoes, or even zucchini just add them when you add the water if they're raw or half way through cooking if they're already cooked and frozen.
