Recipe: Naan

This naan is not authentic at all. This is a shortcut way of getting the same texture of naan. I make it out of basic roll dough. You can’t substitute butter for ghee because you need the high smoke point so your bread doesn’t burn. Thankfully ghee is easy to make or available to buy in most places now a days.

Simple Naan
  1. 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  2. 1 cups of lukewarm water
  3. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  4. 1/2 tablespoons coarse salt
  5. ghee (clarified butter)
  6. any add on or extra fixings you like: garlic, more butter, fancy salts, jam
  1. Make the dough by combining the yeast and water and letting them sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is activated.
  2. Stir in the flour and salt with a wooden spoon (or other flat utensil) until the dough comes together.
  3. Let the dough rise for at least an hour.
  4. Divide the dough into small balls and then flatten each ball into what looks like a pancake.
  5. Put some ghee in a frying pan, place your dough on one side and cover with a pot.
  6. Flip after 2-3 minutes and cook the other side (still covered) until golden on both sides.
