Recipe: No Fry Sweet and Sour Chicken

I really love this recipe because frying is just a bridge too far for me most days. I understand most people don’t fry because of health but for me it’s mostly just laziness so if you want the delicious taste of sweet and sour chicken but less work – this is the recipe for you.

No Fry Sweet and Sour Chicken

  1. 400-500g boneless skinless chicken breasts, chopped into 2-3cm pieces
  2. 40g corn starch
  3. 2 tablespoons oil
  4. 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  5. 1 green bell pepper
  6. 1 small onion, chopped
  1. 150g sugar
  2. 125ml rice vinegar
  3. 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  4. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  5. 1/2 teaspoon onion power
  6. 80g ketchup
  7. 1 tablespoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoon water
  1. Make the sauce in a saucepan by combining the sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and onion powder, and ketchup. Stir and bring to a low boil. Add the cornstach/water mixture to the sauce pan and stir until thickened and turn the heat off.
  2. Next add the chicken pieces and corn starch to a large ziplock bag or tupperwear, seal and shake to coat.
  3. Heat oil in a large pan and once hot, add the coated chicken, cook for 3-5 minutes then add the peppers and onions and cook through.
  4. Turn the heat off, add the sauce to the chicken and stir to coat.
