Recipe: Shaped Crackers

These crackers come out tasting absolutely delicious. I don’t think they necessarily need their last dip in butter but if you do decide to do that, you will not be disappointed. I found that rolling them very thin made them crisp more like the texture of Ritz Chips and thicker gave them a softer, pillow-y texture more like original Ritz. They can be cut in any shape, mine I cut free hand as you can tell!

Shaped Crackers
Yields 35
  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 3 teaspoons baking powder
  3. 1 tablespoon sugar
  4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  5. 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  6. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  7. 2/3 cup cold water
  8. 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with ungreased parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl blend together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and then cut in the butter until a raggedy dough starts to form.
  3. To the dough add the oil and water slowly and mix until a dough ball forms, making sure to blend up all the flour. Let dough rest for at least 15 minutes.
  4. When ready, flour a flat surface and roll out the dough to desired thickness and then cut your shapes by hand or with a floured cookie cutter.
  5. Bake the dough for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown and then immediately brush each cracker with melted butter and allow to cool before consuming.
