Recipe: Sugar Cookies

This is just a run of the mill sugar cookie recipe which I didn’t realize I had never posted one. These cookies came out near perfect but that nice sweet crunch that is sugary and buttery but not too rich or too sweet to be a turn off. The picture is when I dipped them in white chocolate and sprinkles for a party but shapes and garnishes are all up to you. I like this recipe because it doesn’t need to be chilled so you can go from start to finish in less than 20 minutes if you’re pretty quick about it.

Sugar Cookies
Yields 25
  1. 1 cup butter, softened
  2. 1 cup white sugar
  3. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  4. 1 egg
  5. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  6. 3 cups all purpose flour
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. In the bowl of your mixer, cream butter and sugar, then beat in the vanilla extract and egg.
  3. Add the baking powder to the mix and then slowly a 1/2 cup at a time, add the flour and beat on low. Beat until all the flour is used and the dough is stiff.
  4. Roll the dough out onto a floured surface about 1/4" thick and cut in to any shape you like.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the top turns golden brown.
